Rules & Etiquette on the Golf Course
The following rules for the use of the golf course are intended to make the game more enjoyable. At the discretion of the starter, groups will be permitted to tee off on a tee other than the beginning tee. At no time will play begin before 7:30 A.M., unless permission is given by the starter or by the Golf Shop. The golf course facilities consist of twenty-seven (27) holes arranged in three (3) nine-hole courses. The South Nine will remain unrestricted for all members, guests and children 16 years of age and over. All golfers must check with the starter before teeing off.
Guest Play/Children
A guest will be permitted to play a maximum of six times per season, regardless of which member is the host. Each twosome, threesome, or foursome must have at least one member or associate member playing in it. Any group with more than one guest per member may be restricted in start of play. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. If their golf skills, in the judgment of the professional staff, are well advanced they may play unaccompanied.
Pace of Play
It is the objective of the Board of Directors to speed up the pace of play on our golf course. The course rangers have been directed to ask slower players to either quicken their pace of play or allow faster players to play through. Please consider the following suggestions for faster play:
|
The individual player will . . . |
- concentrate and plan ahead . . . be thinking about your next shot, about where to place your bag or handcart or where to park your golf cart.
- be prepared to play when it’s your turn . . . select your club, line up your shot or study your putt, make your practice swings while others are playing. When it’s your turn, address your ball and hit it.
- use continuous putting whenever possible . . . as long as you don’t stand in another’s line. Two or three markings per green take extra time.
- walk briskly
- carry a spare ball.
- take no mulligans or practice shots.
- go to your own ball as long as you’re not endangered by your playing partner’s next shot . . . don’t wait until they hit.
- only walk a few paces beyond your own ball.
- watch the flight of the ball into the rough and mark it; hit a provisional when you expect the ball may be lost or out of bounds.
- learn how far you can hit the ball.
- be realistic when waiting to hit your next shot
- don’t endanger the group ahead, but usually the waiters can’t get there.
- mark your scores as you walk to the next tee. NOT ON THE GREEN.
- learn the rules of golf.
|
|
Groups of players will . . . |
- make your match before you get to the first tee.
- place the low handicapper in charge of maintaining rapid pace.
- forget honors when lagging behind . . . first person off the green and on the tee, hit it; play when ready in fairway, so long as you don’t endanger other players.
- putt when ready . . . don’t wait for the “away” player if he’s not ready.
- allow shorter hitters to play first as soon as the group ahead is out of range.
- allow faster groups behind you to go through . . . then speed up.
- spend no more than 5 minutes to look for a lost ball.
- wave up the following group on all par-3’s.
|
|
Cart riders should . . . |
- make your logical club selection and, when two are riding, take two more clubs, one longer and one shorter. While you prepare to play, your partner should walk or ride to his ball. Don’t wait for each other.
park your cart on the paths adjacent to greens – NEVER on aprons – in direct line from green to next tee. |
Lightning Policy
Cascade Hills County Club has a lightning detection device that will be used when there is the threat of severe weather. When lightning activity is detected in the area, a horn will be sounded. When the horn sounds three times, discontinue play and seek shelter! It is mandatory to discontinue play when the horn sounds, and anyone who does not take shelter after the horn has sounded does so at his/her own risk. When the severe weather has cleared the horn will sound once – you then may continue to play.
For tournament play, Cascade Hills has adopted a local rule that modifies Rule 6-8b:
“When play is suspended for a dangerous situation, if the players in a match or group are between holes, they shall not resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play. If they are in the process of playing a hole, they must discontinue play immediately and shall not thereafter resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play.”
**Pentalty for breach of this rule is disqualification
