Caddie Program

* 2010 Caddie Season:  The first Caddie meeting of the season will be held on April 17th at 9 a.m. in the Clubhouse Ballroom.  All aspiring Caddies are invited to attend as there will be a sign-up and golf staff on hand to answer any questions.

Caddies can be reserved for use Saturdays and Holidays by calling the Golf Shop  in advance. CHCC caddies have been thoroughly trained on the rules and etiquette of golf, and they have been instructed to replace divots, rake out traps and hold flags, as well as perform the other duties that make a fine caddie. Please do not hesitate to remind them to do these things if they should neglect them.

Transportation often presents a problem in assuring that a sufficient number of caddies are on hand.  It can be tremendously helpful if members are able to provide a ride whenever possible for the boys & girls going to and from the Club. Members are urged to use caddies whenever possible as we are proud of our caddie program and want to maintain it. It is unreasonable to expect these boys & girls to be available for events and tournaments if they are not given the opportunity to caddie for us at other times.

How to Become a Caddie

Potential caddies will be required to pass a written test on Western Golf Association Training Manual. Upon successful completion of this test potential caddies will be invited to attend a nine-hole training session. If the potential caddie feels they have mastered the skills necessary for being a caddie, he or she may schedule a nine hole on course test with the Caddie Master. And finally upon successful demonstration of their abilities, the potential caddie will be invited to join our program.

These tough standards are necessary because our caddies must be prepared to assist golfers and enhance their performance. Unprepared or unconfident caddies are a negative reflection of the entire program.

All inquiries regarding the caddie program can be made by dialing (616) 949-0740. The Caddie Master is only available after 3 pm Monday through Thursday, and after 9 am on Saturdays. Phone messages will be returned in the order they were received. Potential caddies, not their parents, should make inquiries. A mature attitude is valued on the golf course, and is reflected in potential caddies’ initiative and ability to handle their work related responsibilities.

Evans Scholarship

Every year many young men and women across the country benefit from this scholarship that pays for college tuition and room charges. The Evans Scholarship is only available to caddies who are in genuine need of financial assistance and who have a record of high academic and personal achievements. More than 8,600 Evans Scholars have graduated since its inception in 1930. Today, these men and women enjoy prominent careers in business, science, health care, the arts, and education.

At Cascade Hills Country Club, the Board of Directors is committed to both our caddie program and to the promotion and support of the Evans Scholarship program. Each year our professional golf staff and Caddie Master decide which caddies will be given the opportunity to apply.
